Great Patriotic Flounder Day

One of Thembria's strangest national holidays, this event celebrates an unusual Thembrian hero known as the "Great Patriotic Flounder." During the Great War, enemy forces had invaded Thembrian territory and threatened to destroy the Thembrian capital. In Thembria's most desperate hour, the impossible (and absurd) happened — an ordinary flounder jumped from a nearby stream into the enemy's cannon, clogging it and saving all of Thembria. The common fish was thereafter honored as the Great Patriotic Flounder, for which this holiday is held in remembrance of the fish's "heroic" achievement.

The High Marshall himself presides over the Flounder Day celebration airshow, the highlight of which is the presentation of the Flounder Formation, an aerial formation consisting of eleven aircraft and resembling the outline of a fish. Considering the sanctity of the event to Thembrians, the High Marshall demands a perfect Flounder Formation be displayed each year to avoid desecrating the memory of the Great Patriotic Flounder.
