Economy and Businesses
From Richelieu's Department Store to "Bob's Discount
House of Fish", Cape Suzette is an entrepreneur's paradise.
The city's favorable location and extended contact with the
outside world makes it an extremely profitable base for corporations
and businesses of all kinds. Real estate is readily available
and the growing trend in shipping and transport lets starting
businesses open their doors to a worldwide market.
On the other hand, the large number of major corporations
already established in Cape Suzette presents newcomers with
formidable competition. Fledgling businesses must gain a solid
clientele in order to withstand pressure from major organizations,
or they will run out of prospective customers rather quickly.
Fortunately, under Usland law, Cape Suzette's economy operates
on a free enterprise system which restricts most monopolistic
business practices and gives everyone their "equal opportunity."

The largest and most well-known business in Cape Suzette
is Khan Industries, the multi-billion dollar corporation owned
and run by businessman Shere Khan. While divisions of this
corporation are spread throughout the world, its headquarters
Khan Tower is located in the downtown part of
the city. Khan Industries is almost single-handedly responsible
for the livelihood of the populace, providing important public
services and cargo transport as well as employment opportunities.
However, the extensive industrial and commercial hold Khan
Industries has on Cape Suzette gives Shere Khan control over
many aspects of the city government, including utilities and
city defenses. Although the people of Cape Suzette are grateful
for Khan Industries' contributions to their livelihood, they
resent the fact that Shere Khan essentially "rules"
the city in this manner.
On the opposite end of the scale are numerous cargo shipping
firms based along the Cape Suzette waterfront. Ranging from
small, privately-owned businesses with a single plane each
to expansive operations with whole fleets of planes, independent
shipping firms are responsible for handling the majority of
the city's cargo business. Many of these businesses are capably
managed and well-insured with coverage supplied by firms such
as Allfreight Insurance. There are countless freelance operations
as well, although several of these are notoriously heavy in
debt and eventually bought out by wealthy entrepreneurs. Many
noteworthy businesses thrive along the docks, including the
famous "Higher for Hire" air cargo service run by
Ms. Rebecca Cunningham.

PAPERS AND MAGAZINES

|
|
Lots of things happen in a metropolis
as large as Cape Suzette, and its people want to stay
up to speed with the latest developments. Four major
newspapers keep well-read citizens informed of current
events: Cape News, the Cape Suzette Gazette,
the Daily World, and the Tribune-Times
(all daily publications).
FLYBOY MAGAZINE
Flyboy Magazine is the leading
publication of its kind in Cape Suzette, an aviation
periodical with a readership that's thousands strong
and growing. Pilots turn to Flyboy's pages for
reviews of the newest planes, helpful tips for better
flying, and ads for services and products. Feature articles
in each issue have addressed topics ranging from technological
trends to safety concerns. Colorful illustrations and
stunning aerial photographs fill the magazine from cover
to cover; sporty plane centerfolds and pull-out posters
of aviation greats are also a hit with Flyboy's
subscribers. Readers may buy new issues week-to-week,
or order a monthly or yearlong subscription from the
publisher.

Transportation is another major aviation-related industry
in Cape Suzette. To give citizens the chance to commute overseas,
many dockside businesses offer passenger transport. A few
classier organizations can provide accomodations on huge luxury
airships, but travel fare is much more expensive. Most of
the time, travelers board smaller passenger craft or charter
reconverted cargo freighters with heavy mileage records. For
short-range flights, commuters usually hire air taxis, peppy
little four-man craft that travel quickly and charge reasonable
rates.
Another of the city's claims to fame is that Cape Suzette
has the widest selection of eating establishments on the continent.
Diners, malt shops, ice cream parlors, and fast-food joints
can be found on virtually every street corner in the mid-city
region, a convenience enjoyed by countless people. Notable
places to eat include the "Saviore Faire," a skydeck
cafe located downtown; the elegant Spruce Moose; the
ritzy "Copabanana" nightclub; "Paul's Burger-and-Fries"
franchise; the seedy "Tiny's Grill"; and the banquet
hall of the Cape Suzette Hotel.
